tl;dr I created a dictionary-like app that exports chosen entries directly to AnkiDroid (definitions, examples and audio), and I’m looking for beta testers. Nothing serious, no commitment, I just want any feedback people feel like sharing. App available as closed beta on Play Store, instructions for joining and screenshots at the bottom of this post.
So, I created this app to automate my note creation when I want data from a dictionary or cards based on example phrases, and I decided to make it public and free… partially as an exercise of creating my own app, partly because if it works it might help others with the same needs and I like that. And I would like to invite anyone that is interested or willing to spare me some minutes to test it and share any feedback you have.
With it, you can export multiple definition entries for a word, example phrases, IPA, and audio pronunciation into custom-made note types which provide word-to-multiple-definitions, definition-to-word and two-way example phrase cards, all based on available fields, generating a varied set of cards for each word entry you export from. Words can be searched directly in the app or through contextual menus in any app like a browser (long press any word, then use the dedicated “Add” or “Enqueue” items or the common “Share-to-app” alternative).
The dictionary data are preprocessed from Wiktionary dumps, since it’s the best and most diverse free dictionary there is. Given that, the best “native” languages are English, French, Chinese, Greek, Russian, German, etc (in that order the best Wiktionary languages). “Learning” languages are whatever exist on each of those Wiktionary native languages, several dozen languages available. Dictionaries are downloaded and kept locally for offline use, and can be updated straight from the app as new dumps are released.
The premise is simple and the audience limited maybe even among Anki users for language learning, but I’d be glad if this app could prove useful to others. I’m looking for any feedback you can provide, about the app, usage, usefulness, Anki note templates, anything.
