Advanced Browser - mod kaiu 2026 [Official support]

This is the official support thread for the add-on: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1334324384. If you have any questions or suggestions, you can leave them here.
If you’re familiar with GitHub, you can also create a ticket (specifically, a ticket; don’t ask a question there, as tickets are closed) in the official repository: GitHub - AndreyKaiu/advanced-browser-mod-kaiu-2026: An Anki add-on with an improved flashcard browser (by AnKing-VIP). Plus, language translation and other improvements.

Please reply in English (or, at the very least, in Russian, but that won’t be clear to everyone).

I’m not the original add-on’s creator!

Advanced Browser, link to add-on on AnkiWeb.

I’m just tired of waiting for the add-on’s author to respond to a good suggestion to expand the functionality of the “persitent menu for multi-selection & add fields reset function” https://github.com/AnKing-VIP/advanced-browser/pull/187
I saw a lot of issues with the map overview, and since I like to highlight certain maps in color, I couldn’t do it comfortably with the standard overview.

What has changed in “advanced-browser-mod-kaiu-2026”

  • Fixed a bug where the menu wouldn’t fit many items (there were too many fields and they couldn’t be accessed).

  • The menu now always has three selection methods (excluding the “Use a single list for fields” setting): “- Current note fields -”, "- Fields (all) -", “- Fields (in models) -” — this is more convenient when there are a lot of fields and note types.

  • The menu is now much more convenient, as you can select multiple items at once (author: “denny0810”, still unfulfilled request “persitent menu for multi-selection & add fields reset function #187”). Select as usual with the left mouse button and complete the selection with the right mouse button. There’s also an option to select the “- Fields Reset -” menu item, which will remove the main fields (not extended or system fields). This allows you to quickly reconfigure the display of the required columns.

You can read the full description on GitHub or in the addon description…

I had the issue that changing the deck of a card takes exceedingly long (freezes). Already calling the change-deck-function with a right-click takes long, and then actually changing the deck as well.
In such a situation, the task manager reports that one of the two python processes is not responding. After a minute or so, work resumes.

Also Anki starts up quite slowly..

After disabling the addon, the issue seems to have gone away (for now, I will notify you here if it reappears without the addon).

Version info:

Thanks for the message!
Proper communication with users is very important.

There’s a button in the Anki help for copying debug information.
I need everything after:
===Add-ons (active)===
(as you wrote before)

If you installed the Add-ons window add-on - :down_arrow:Sort, :artist_palette:Colors, :writing_hand:Hint https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1621264520 , you could save your settings like this:

Try working with just two add-ons. Of course, after each change to the add-on settings, you’ll need to restart Anki.

Then restore the state back to how it was:

I think it’s a coloring issue, but I’m not sure. These kinds of errors are hard to track down, especially when Anki itself sometimes doesn’t work consistently on Windows 11. It would be a good idea to try changing your video driver.

I disabled the extension, and re-enabled it. the issue did not reappear yet. I’ll report if it does.

OK, after a couple of days the issue reappeared. Anki is sluggish when I answer a question (good, again etc) when I have a browser window open at the ssame time. Without the browser window, Anki is fast again. When I move a card to another deck, anki freezes for a couple of seconds.

Here is the debug information. I don’t see anything except a list of installed addons, though, no specific logging info…

Thank you for your time.
I have a slightly different version 11 installed on my virtual machine. I installed a clean Anki and one deck. By default, I don’t notice any issues.

I have a request for you: could you please work with the DX video driver settings, as shown in the photo:

If possible, please send me a list of the columns you have installed.
And could you please remove all the columns, leaving just one default one (it won’t let you delete them all). And keep it in “Notes” mode. I suspect that the response sends a message to the browser about an update, and there’s either a complex column there or one that’s simply not working properly (I once had such columns left over from other add-ons and they were interfering). If I know which columns, maybe I can find the cause. Perhaps some code isn’t being calculated correctly.
But I hope it’s not the latest Windows updates that are interfering.

And ideally, if you have another account, switch to it and try it even in a separate collection. The collection might have some effect; I’ve only tested with one deck so far.

How do I change the video driver, is this a Windows setting?

Ctrl+P settings
It’s easy to choose there.
Generally, this is recommended if you’re having problems.
https://docs.ankiweb.net/troubleshooting.html#6-change-the-video-driver

These are the columns I am using (currently with the original Advanced Browser)

I should remove all the columns? But I am using the Advanced Browser to have those columns…

I seem to use the video driver you suggest.

Thanks.
Just reopen these columns later.
And leave only one that you know won’t interfere. Let’s say it’s “Card” and then try to practice it to see if there are any problems.
I noticed that you have sorting enabled for “Interval.” Perhaps the interval for the card changes when you answer, and it’s trying to sort.
In theory, it shouldn’t affect the speed, but I’ll check later.
For now, try practicing with one column, then add another column if everything works. Then another. This way, you can gradually figure out which column is causing the problems.

On Windows 11, yes, but on Windows 10 I have OpenGL.
You can always try changing it and see what happens.

OK. I re-enabled your extension. I will wait until the issue becomes visible creeping up again, and then try disabling columns to find the offending ones. That might take a day or two again. BTW - disabling and enabling might be a workaround for the problem, only you have to repeat it every other day.

Yes, they are sorted by interval. BTW, do you know a way to have the Browse display sorted by exactly that order that is used for studying (implied by those cascading rules you set up in the options)? That would be the order I actually want, but I was not able to produce it, so I just sort by interval. Having a more complex sort order (first column a, than column b, …) does also not seem to be available.

Yes, that’s a problem. When I need to do this, I sort by one column. I select and mark these records (Ctrl+K), and then use “deck:current tag:marked” to sort them differently, as needed.

The planner is very tricky. I don’t know exactly how it works. The help page says that sometimes it’s an approximate order; it works itself out. So it’s difficult to know the exact order, as it changes literally every minute, depending on the answers.
So, to be able to review or even view and memorize the cards from the overview, say, urgently before an exam, I created the add-on https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1188253433
Although if the order isn’t that important, a filtered deck is also suitable.

Oh, I forgot to clarify. I’d look through and select cards, specifically cards, flagging them, say, red, as urgently needed. Then I’d go through those cards with a filtered deck, and until I’d learned them all, I wouldn’t select the next 10.
