Wrong shortcut / tooltip for indentation on German keyboard

It should show you the key on your actual layout (so Turkish-Q in your case).

If I understand correctly, then the experimental keyboard mapping function seems to be quite reliable.

Yes, that’s expected and can be ignored. It wouldn’t do that in the actual implementation. Also see the TODO part I put into the code at the very bottom.

I didn’t look into combining it with Shift, Alt, ect yet. So that’s expected.

Not sure if tommylenz or someone else here is going to try 3rd party keyboard libs in the future – if not, then I’ll probably be able to test it in about 8-12 weeks.

Anki version: 25.09.4

OS: macOS (German keyboard layout, German UI)

Issue:

In the Add Card window, the indent buttons in the editor toolbar work correctly.

However, the shortcut shown in the tooltip for “Einrückung vergrößern” (⌘⇧.) does not work.

What I tested:

  • ⌘⇧.
  • ⌘⇧,
  • ⌘⇧<
  • Ctrl+Tab
  • Ctrl+Shift+Tab
  • Fn+Shift+Tab

None of them increase the indentation.

The function only works when clicking the toolbar button.

There is also no corresponding menu entry in the macOS menu bar that would allow assigning a custom App Shortcut.

Expected behavior:

The displayed shortcut should work, or the tooltip should show the correct shortcut for German macOS keyboard layouts.

Which German keyboard Input Source are you using?

  • QZ: ABC-QWERTZ
  • AT: Austrian
  • DE: German
  • DE: German - Standard
  • CH: Swiss German

Which German layout is your physical keyboard? Is it the standard T1 QWERTZ? Or, is it T2 or T3?

I will try to reproduce the behavior, if I can.

I tested the following keyboard Input Sources on Anki 26.05 on United States region macOS Tahoe 26.5.1, using a North American ANSI QWERTY layout keyboard. I was not able to reproduce the behavior. The ⌘⇧. key combo correctly increased list indentation (and ⌘⇧, correctly decreased list indentation).

  • A: ABC
  • U+: Unicode Hex Input

I am using:

  • Input Source: German (“Deutsch”)
  • Physical keyboard: Apple Magic Keyboard with the standard German QWERTZ layout

As far as I know, this should be the standard German layout (T1).
