AnkiDroid uses code of Anki for desktop and unlimited AnkiWeb server by official Anki, so I think maybe the official Anki is prioritizing the development of cross platform code or server enhancements rather than supporting AnkiDroid directly. (E.g. Anki’s Svelte future)
