It sounds like you need to download and install a Japanese font, (for example, one of the Japanese Noto fonts) onto your computer.
I’m not sure how you install fonts on Endless OS Linux. (A brief internet search suggests that double-clicking on a font file might open it in a font manager program that will have an “install” button that installs the font.)
