I’m using Anki back to back from desktop to IOS. Am I going to lose my data? Should I erase and re-install?

This looks like a UI issue, and should not affect your data. If you close and re-open Anki, can you reproduce it?

I found out the error message is no longer in presence at some point. Maybe it was resolved after I restarted. Thank you.
