If you criticize AnkiDroid, the developers will block you

Yes. That seems to be the AnkiDroid theme.

“We won’t do it. You do it.”

Welcome to open source. No one owes you anything.

If it takes since November of 2023 to implement a br in a string to make is visible, then I guess open source really isn’t the way to go after all.

In this case, you can easily fix it yourself. Or not to use Android on principle. Or hire a developer who will do it for you.
There are many options. You have chosen one of the worst and useless ones.

Yep. That’s the AnkiDroid motto. “Do it yourself.” The worst and useless development philosophy. The fifth person to tell me that gets a high-give emoji.

And no, my way wasn’t the worst. Because after a millennia, after my post here, a developer came up with the bright idea to insert a br into the string.

I don’t have the time to figure out GitHub, neither do the developers apparently.

Development of Anki is not too difficult.
Since it is open source, it is written in easy programming language, there are manuals for volunteers, there is support from the community, and recently there are many AI tools available. Plus Anki is a powerful tool for learning, even a 10 year kid can learn to code. Many Anki volunteers are students, and medical students too.
If you are a dedicated learner at Anki there is no reason why you cannot master it.

Again, the “do it yourself” comment.

There are many reasons. I have 2 jobs and study Japanese 3 hours a day. I slept 2 hours a couple nights ago.

“You know. The letter “L” on the public library roof has been crooked for over a year.”

“No one owes you anything. Fix it yourself. It’s not that hard.”

Also, you can’t call them volunteers when they only work because of donations.

If all those things are excluded, I think the only other thing left is social networking.
If you are an influencer and distributor of Anki information, such as on Youtube, you will have more influence. For example, you can indirectly contribute to the community by creating AnkiDorid promotional videos or useful tutorials.

If you typed AnkiDorid on purpose again, I like you

That was not intended sarcasm lol I am a native Japanese and studying English.

Well as you said at the beginning, AnkiMobile on iOS may be suitable for you, not AnkiDroid.
I think AnkiMobile has already achieved most of the quality you require, since AnkiMobile is paid, Official Anki Damien is a full time developer, and they updates the app frequently, so bugs like this will not be left for a long time. New features are introduced almost at the same time as Anki for desktop, which was quickly with FSRS.

But some features are only available in AnkiDroid, so the extensibility and flexibility is better in AnkiDroid, so basically there is no advantage enough to change devices.

Other, you might try to find someone to fix this problem in a community like Anki subreddit. As well as some people in this thread have suggested you fix it yourself, Anki users developers can look into this issue and fix it.
Sometimes developers develop based on an idea or request, and students and novice developers sometimes develop for a few dollars to a few dozen dollars.

This is insane. I couldn’t ever think the developers are such rude people. I’ve been using Anki for years. Now I’ll have to rethink my choices and probably move on to an alternative

To be clear I’m an add-ons developer (just an Anki geek), not the AnkiDroid or official Anki developer.
Briefly, the Anki ecosystem looks like this

  1. Anki for desktop : Developed by official Anki and volunteers. (Free)
  2. AnkiMobile (iOS) : This is a paid app developed by official Anki ($25).
  3. AnkiDroid (Android) : Developed by volunteers. (Free)
  4. Add-ons (desktop) : Tools to extend Anki, anyone can develop freely.
  5. AnkiWeb (browser) : This is a free server provided by the official Anki.

So the reason why AnkiDroid developers block users like OP is simple, they are volunteers and their time is the most precious, so they must get rid of all the elements that interfere with their development.

Bug reports are helpful, but eager urging, demanding, and persuading are the most obtrusive, so it is reasonable to ignore such requests or put them at the end of the task list. (Unless they do, there will be more of such demands)

If you want to force them to do such requests, you must pay them to do so (or watch a lot of ads like youtube), that is why the job of programming still exists.

Pssst, @Shigeyuki , I think the /s after that post meant the response was as sarcastic as yours sometimes are.

Thanks, I learned a new slang and the correct spelling of AnkiDroid in this thread lol

That good outcome makes this whole thread worthwhile!

The heck, I always was under the impression that AnkiDorid is a typo (By the way, droid probably comes from Android).

We are talking about AnkiDorid

It’s a typo

And it does

You forgot to italicize “whole”

Like criticism that hurts their feelings. It took them over 2 years IIRC so get an update on Google Play, despite being “humbled” by donations.

A volunteer firefighter can be called a volunteer because they don’t receive money for their work. AnkiDorid devs cannot be called volunteers because they work, slowly, for money
