Is there a way to manually set card states? Also, how do I view the cards in the browser so that it would show the color of the cards according to their card state.
It depends. You’ll need to be more specific: what states do you want to go from and to? The basic states are New, Learn, Review, and Relearn – but Due, Suspended, and Buried are also pretty much states.
Most states aren’t represented by a color in the Browse window. Only Suspended and Buried will be visible that way. Aside from those, there are the 7 flag colors you already mentioned, and 1 color that applies at the note-level, for “marked.”
Forgive me, I’m still new on Anki but this is what I’m seeing on the browser for the card states.
I’m under the impression that since they are colored we can also set how the color of the cards appears on the browser.
Basically what I want to do/happen is to give color to the cards that are new, learning, and review. I get that we could do that through flags but are there other ways of putting color on them besides the flag?
As for manually setting card states, its like this: Let’s say i want a number of cards that are currently on review to be converted to new, how do i do that? just reset it?
Also, is there a way to change the card state colors here?
I think those are default colors and i would like to change them to like this:
Ah, okay – those colors will match the colors you see in the Browse window for Suspended and Buried. For New-Learning-Review, that blue-red-green should look familiar to you from the counters that you see on the main Decks page, and while you’re studying – but those aren’t colors that show on the cards in Browse.
I’d suggest that’s not necessary or practical. During the course of a study session, a card can move freely between those states – from New to Learn to Review, or from Review to Relearn to Review. You’re not going to run back to the Browse window after every each card to change it’s color, right?
Also think about the fact that every card is in one of those states. So, even if you could get the cards to automatically change colors, then every card in the table would be highlighted, and nothing would stand out.
Yep. You shouldn’t need to do that very often, but when you need to, you’ll find that in the Cards menu – called Reset or Forget, depending on what version you have. Browsing - Anki Manual
There may be ways to do that with an add-on. But since these colors are consistent in several places throughout this app, and on Anki across all the platforms, I think you will be better off sticking with these colors – especially while you’re just starting out.
New cards will already show up as “clear” in Browse, unless you have them flagged, marked, suspended, or buried. You don’t need to change anything to make that happen.
The rest of what you listed there are the buttons for grading your answers, which have nothing to do with those card states in the Browse window.
