If this does not already exist in some form, consider it as a suggestion.
What Image Occlusion does is that it shows a single image with the occlusions (either hide-all or hide-one) on it at any given instance. It cannot show two or more images at any given instance.
Is there a way to get multiple Image Occlusion Notes with their occlusions to be combined into one single note with multiple images? Kind of like how Cloze notes behave with their cloze cards.
Also, there doesn’t seem a way to edit an image in this addon that would apply to ALL its cards. Each Occlusion is treated as a separate card itself with no relation to its other sibling cards.
It works differently. IO is much simpler than IOE, but it’s powerful. Your suggestion of multiple masks for a single card is applicable to both by the way. I meant to make a post about it here after I saw somebody in discord who was asking for similar functionality. So +1 from me.
It’s not present. That’s the thing. But it should. Incrementing a cloze number… or let’s call that occlusion number is basic functionality. I meant to create a post under “Suggestions” but maybe I forgot.
I’m not sure if I understand your request. Are you trying to achieve something like this, where you have to guess what’s behind multiple image occlusion masks at the same time, but not all of them?
No. I am trying to get Image Occlusion to function like how clozes function inside a cloze note.
How a cloze note functons:
one edit in the cloze note remains consistent with each child cloze card
the entire content of the cloze note is consistently visible even when a different cloze card is on focus inside during reviewing.
How IO functions comapared to that
each occlusion is a seperate card, they are not combined into a single note so:
an edit of the image for one occlusion is not replicated for all the sibling occlusions
after having pressed hide one or hide all once, pressing it once again after having changed up the occlusions also leads to no continuity. Any edit to one of the earlier cards is not replicated to the later cards
Basically my main problem is this continuity issue with Image Occlusion
It sounds like you are using Image Occlusion Enhanced, i.e. the add-on version of Image Occlusion? If so, native Image Occlusion adds all the cards as part of the same note, rather than as separate notes, so I guess it may address at least some of your concerns.
If you edit an image you are using in an Image Occlusion Enhanced note, and you then wish to apply the change to all the “siblings”, you can do that by going to the Edit window → Edit Image Occlusion → Edit Cards
Yes I am indeed using Image Occlusion Enhanced O_O
Wait hold up let me try this. How does one activate native Image Occlusion. Should I delete the addon for this, and what would happen to my Image Occlusion Enhance cloze cards if I do
You shouldn’t need to do anything to activate it, aside from using a sufficiently modern Anki version. I don’t remember exactly when the feature was first introduced, but I personally suggest using the most recent version (24.06.3), as the feature is still relatively new and developers are continuously improving it.
Also, there is no interaction between the native Image Occlusion and the Image Occlusion Enhanced add-on, so no worries on that front.
Just go to the Add window → Choose Note Type → Image Occlusion
(gives a tooltip at the bottom saying it is a non editable note)
I also still cant seem to change or replace the old image
There is no shortcut for the delete button
(it is laggy)
Edit 2: I seem to have found Reset Image Occlusion. I will try to see what it does
Edit 3: It seems that it does what I want (allowing me to change the image, only that it does my occlusions completely–>is there no way to not allow this to completely undo my occlsuions, just the image0
I think there may have been some misunderstanding here. That part was about the Image Occlusion Enhance add-on, not native Image Occlusion. I was explaining how to apply changes made in one note to all its “sibling notes”.
(On a side note, you can decide which fields do and do not get overwritten when using Edit Image Occlusion -> Edit Cards by changing IOE’s configuration.)
I don’t think there is an easy way to do that at the moment. As mentioned previously, native Image Occlusion is still quite new and some of its functionalities are a bit simplistic, especially if you are used to Image Occlusion Enhanced.
I think the best way to delete masks, currently, is to select them with the mouse, and then click on the Trash Bin icon or press Del on your keyboard.
Can you cite on example in which case this could be useful, because I did not fully understand…

Bummer → Make this part of the suggestions to help make native IO better!

Thanks for the tip!
By the way, where are these hidden fields inside the native IO note type. Could I add more field fields of my own
If you leave that section of IOE’s configuration empty, when you go to the Edit Image Occlusion window and select Edit Cards, all the non-mask fields of the ‘sibling notes’ will be overwritten, with their content replaced by that of the note you opened the Edit Image Occlusion window from. This may be undesirable if you wish to mantain some note-specific fields, such as hints or additional information that is only relevant to a particular mask.
Sure, you can add as many fields as you like. You can access the fields by clicking the blue icon in the top bar.
