Creation of new landing page

@landingpageguage the icon looks janky in both Chrome and Edge when I google Anki: it’s a white square inside a grey circle

The logo is a transparent PNG inside a SVG file. I should change it to .ico if I can get the SVG file, as it would be easier to control the logo size. I have created the related issue.

IMO we should also have this for the manual. If you can do it: New Favicons · Issue #258 · ankitects/anki-manual · GitHub

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I just used the SVG provided by someone, but it looks like this is because the SVG actually embeds an image. It would likely be solved by creating an SVG using paths instead. Maybe someone else in the community has experience with this?

I didn’t notice that it was discussed. Why does the ankidroid link lead to Google Play?

Link to the AnkiDroid Google Play listing as opposed to? The links in the mobile section are to take users to the respective primary app stores.

Thank you for offering this. The i18n support needs to be added first however.

I had proposed it to be changed (or rather expanded) in [Feature Request] Add F-Droid link for AnkiDroid · Issue #37 · ankitects/anki-landing-page · GitHub.

Dae rejected it.

Something like this?

Since a few days passed (and this got several upvotes): Do you plan to open a PR?

I’d very much appreciate having the F-Droid link on the landing page!

I don’t think we measure whether to implement things or not solely based on “upvotes.” As you said Damien has already considered this and rejected the idea. There’s no point in opening a PR.

He might reconsider when he sees the image, considering he seemed to be worried about the way it would look (he said “symmetry”).

I understood that “symmetry” to be between all of the download links – keeping OS on the left, app-name-link on the right.

I think having another link there is going to be more confusing for more users than it would be helpful for any user. Folks who avoid the Google Play store know how to do that already!

If he’s changed his mind, I’m sure he’ll let us know!

I still think this is a niche feature that most users don’t care about, but if the AnkiDroid devs feel strongly about it, they can create their own landing page which we link to, and on it they can advertise as many different store links as they wish.
