Possible, you can find big notes by Note Size addon and reduce your collection size
- So I have amassed just over 2M reviews in the past 3 years of Anki
- My collection has has shy of 100k cards, all cloze cards. I cannot delete entire notes or it will delete all cloze cards with them.
- I am extremely reluctant to delete rev logs. I dont know how severely it would afflict my scheduling. @L.M.Sherlock sorry for pinging you, but your input here may be helpful.
From AnkiWeb
@aleks_ya Checked my note size stats. Deleting my only deck that I could think I could give up on has freed up a bit ot space. But 6 MB of free space means, I will be having this problem again very soon.
Self-Hosted Sync Server
You can also opt out of syncing by transferring some decks to a different profile.
I am not computer privy to be dealing with this stuff
I could transfer some decks to a different profile, but like I said, I am reviewing the entirety of my collection. There are no decks which are “unused”. I am using all of it. And with the nature of all my cards being cloze cards (individual cloze cards cannot be deleted, only entire cloze notes with all its cloze cards could be deleted), the process of removing individual cards is impossible for me (talking about the 4k suspended cards in my collection)…
The addon and ankiweb can calculate the size differently.
Here is my AnkiWeb reported Collection Size.
You May have a lot of notes with a lot of html code. Use the addon to check it out.
An average cloze note of mine is 10KB-20KB. TH
Here is the text size of my most text-rich cloze notes in my entire collection, not counting media as apparently media is not the problem.
Tried it. Said it removed about 500k (or 50k rev log entries? I am not sure, I wasn’t quick enough to read). Though that did nothing to free up space in my collection. @sorata
If you have ever reset cards, you can delete their old revlogs. Can you not also find cards that you’ve learned already and can archive them?
I rarely ever do reset cards. And I certainly dont want to archive cards. Like I said, for me there is no such thing as a learnt card. I am reviewing everything as Anki is telling me to.
Then there’s no way pal. You either delete revlogs/card text, or you change how you sync (use multiple accounts or set up custom sync server, the latter is better).
Is there a way to delete revlogs up to a certain point in time, and like a reset card from scratch
How do you suggest me to do this, split decks on two accounts
I have checked this out and it seems too complicated for me to do.
Guess I’d have to manage without AnkiWeb and syncing soon…
My only hope is cutting down on revlogs but not completely…
Your method apparently worked, a bit. I just had to sync my collection again to AnkiWeb. It has freed up a bit of space (40MB), which with the rate I am learning could last me a month or 2 in the worst case scenario with the rate I am learning.
Seems axing down my older revlogs is the way to go. I just don’t want to reset my cards!
You seem to have a lot of unused media, could you try to clear the used media and then clear the trash? Maybe create a local backup of that just incase you ever need those.
that would free some space, but remember the limit isn’t on media files.
Is there a way to cut down revlogs partially. Like delete all revlogs before a certain date.
It’s easy to do but, unfortunately, this is not an option because FSRS needs complete review history of all the cards that you are studying in order to function properly.
