Anki Desktop freezes with certain formula input

Anki desktop freezes if following the steps below.

  1. Create a new card. Choose the “Basic” type.

  2. Open the HTML editor. Paste in the following:

    <ul><li><anki-mathjax>\land</anki-mathjax> is <anki-mathjax>\cap</anki-mathjax>.</li></ul>

  3. Click on the WYSIWYG (rich format) editor. Move cursor to the beginning of the body, and push “Enter”. Clear the first empty bullet point.

  4. Move the cursor to the beginning of the body. Now push \(.

  5. Observe that Anki freezes, with the text editing region looking like:

I’m using Anki from Flatpak, Version ⁨25.09.2 (3890e12c)⁩.

Can confirm. Though it doesn’t seem to be a full freeze for me, but rather mostly the add cards dialog. I say mostly, since e.g. pressing on Help in the add card dialog still works, same for the deck chooser when you click on the deck name at the top of the add card dialog.

Other things seem to work mostly, e.g. pressing on Browse or Stats still works fine. But closing Anki via the “x” button in the top bar doesn’t work.

This happens with anki --safemode and there is no error dialog comming up in the ui or error message comming up in the terminal.

Version

Anki 25.09.2 (3890e12c)
Python 3.13.5 Qt 6.9.1 PyQt 6.9.1
Platform: Linux-6.12.41+deb13-amd64-x86_64-with-glibc2.41

Edit: I use the official install script from ankis website, not flatpak or similar.
