Hey,
my last changes to the decks was about in August or September 2025 or even months before.
As I was abroad at the beginning of December suddenly I became this error on my Ankidroid:
“Sync error
Connection timed out. Either your internet connection is experiencing problems, or you have a very large file in your media folder.
SSLException while building HttpClient”
I tried different things with the internet connection but it didn’t change anything. Now I am at home again, have my usual stable internet but I have the same error.
Anki Desktop was the whole time at home on the PC. I could sync it as I came home. The collection of the decks on Desktop Anki is the same as on AnkiDroid.
What should I do? I definitely don’t have “a very large file” in my decks and no internet issues at home.
Thank you in advance.
With best regards.
My devices: Anki Desktop vers. 2.1.49 Windows 8 / AnkiDroid vers. 2.16.5 (Android 6).
Those are pretty old versions of both desktop Anki (5 years) and AnkiDroid (3 years). I’d recommending updating to more recent versions first, and trying again.

Thanks for the answer.
I will try it.
Do you know what is the sence, the meaning of this error? SSLException while building HttpClient?
My interpretation of the error is: While building the HttpClient (the part of AnkiDroid that communicates with web servers), there was a problem related to SSL encryption functionality (which is required for encrypted communication with web servers).

Were there any changes to AnkiWeb at the beginning of December 2025?
I tried to answer the question myself, but couldn’t find anything concrete, except for Changes in 2.1.20 to 29 - Changes
The reason I’m asking is
“Login error in ankidroid (sslexception building httpclient)” https://groups.google.com/g/anki-android/c/jsT60GOgtCU
and
A network error has occurred. SSLException while building HttpClient (2020-05-30) · Issue #6317 · ankidroid/Anki-Android · GitHub
AnkiWeb is closed-source, so there’s no published changelog. I’m not aware of any major changes.
Have you tried clearing the app cache for AnkiDroid [just the cache, not the data] in your Android settings?
