I did report it but their answer was that it likely had to do with system configuration. I tried doing their suggestion as well (updating all packages) but it did not help. I do not want to re-install the OS on this machine over this issue given that the official package works for me.
I can try to fix the coredump for you guys so it contains an actual backtrace (derp!) if there is interest in debugging this problem. If not, I am happy to let it go and move on.
I guess since the issue is not present with the official binary from ankis website there is no need to send a new coredump (unless you can reproduce with anki from the official website as well).
Just some reassurance regarding your linked issue tracker, since someone said this:

You actually are supposed to post here (and not on github) and devs do read the posts here as well (dae does too but is away currently). On github, youâll likely get less people looking over your issue. So you did everything right by posting here.
