Order is wrong and I cannot fix

I’m having an issue with Anki introducing new cards in what seems like a random order. I’m using an imported Italian Core 2000 deck and want to learn the cards from the beginning (Chapter 1 onwards), but Anki starts showing cards from much later chapters, such as Chapter 6. In Browse, searching is:new shows very large New # values (e.g. New #1071200, New #2116533) rather than starting near 1. My settings are: New card gather order = Ascending, New card sort order = Order gathered, and Insertion order = Oldest cards first. How can I make Anki introduce new cards in the original chapter order, starting from the beginning of the deck?

In the Browser view, you can select cards and then right click (or ctrl+click on Mac) and choose “Reposition” to assign them new numbers for order.

What I would suggest:

  1. Start with the last chapter, reposition those cards using start position 0 to bring them to the front.
  2. Then do the second-to-last chapter and reposition those cards using start position 0, with the box “shift position of existing cards” checked so they’ll bump the cards for the last chapter to come after them.
  3. Repeat, working backwards through your chapters, until you finish by making the first chapter’s cards come first.

Did you delete you post on Reddit? That’s not appropriate when someone has already responded to you. Please don’t do that again in the future.

Some people may not want their Reddit identity linked to a username they use elsewhere.

I spotted early on that there’s a tendency to do that in this forum, and decided to stay out of the Anki subreddit to prevent that.

If OP isn’t comfortable having their Reddit identity linked to a username they use outside of Reddit, it’s kind of understandable they’d delete their Reddit post after your reply drew attention to the connection.

Another way to avoid having your identities linked is not reposting your issue in multiple places, especially when you’ve already gotten responses to the first one.
