i want to log out of the anki desktop version of a former friend. i read the instructions on how to log out but when i go to the synchronizing page it just shows that i can log in. does this mean i am not logged into my friends account? i cant ask the friend if im still logged in and i also dont want to delete the data sets of my friend. so to sum it up: i still have many cards of my friends cards but cant log out because i was never logged in apparently. if i now log in with my data and a new profile: will the data sets from my friend get deleted? its a little confusing i know but i dont want to delete their cards.
If you create a new profile, then that profile isn’t connected to any ankiweb account. It is also separate to the data from other profiles. So no, your friends data will not get deleted if you create a new profile and use this new profile.
Where are you logged in? On your browser or in anki? And were do you check whether you’re locked in or out?
im in the anki desktop version on the mac. so im logged into at an application and not in the web version. but regardless of that fact if i log into a new account in the desktop version the data from the former account will not be lost right?
Okay. In that case, log out in the preferences screen (see Preferences - Anki Manual) and then log in with your account.
Logging out will not delete anything from the server. But if there are any unsyncted changes locally on your device, then you should sync them first (otherwise they will be lost if you e.g. delete that profile).
Since you don’t know the exact status of your friend’s account or whether they have their data elsewhere, you safest course of action is (1) rename this profile (like with your friend’s name), (2) create a new profile of your own to sync with your own AnkiWeb account. Profiles - Anki Manual
