# Issue with creating new note types

Dear Anki users,
I am running into a problem with creating new note types which I cant seem to solve myself.
I have created a notetype for my medical studies called “diseases” and added a bunch of fields. Name of the diseas (frontside) and 10 fields for the backside like, pathogenesis, epidemiology, therapy, diagnosis, symptomes etc. Though I dont need to know all of those categories for all of the diseases. For example right know I only want to learn the symptom trias for benigne paroxysmal positional vertigo. I dont need to learn the other fields.
Creating this card, anki shows me all the fields. This is where the problem is. I only fill in the answer for “symptomes” but anki creats cards for all fields, that means I get asked 9 empty cards and only 1 I with content.
Can someone please explain how I can avoid this.

Conditional replacement sounds like a good fit for you. [Card Generation - Anki Manual](https://docs.ankiweb.net/templates/generation.html#conditional-replacement)
Wrap the front template in a conditional to only make card 6 (for instance) if there’s something in field 6.
