# How to set environment variable on Mac, then run Anki ? Need to see console output

I’m helping out a fellow HyperTTS user with a problem on Mac, I need to set an environment variable to enable HyperTTS debug logging. I’ve instructed the user to run  
export HYPER\_TTS\_DEBUG\_LOGGING=enable  
then run Anki from the terminal, but it doesn’t seem to result in any output on the terminal.

Is there a trick to enable Anki to log on the terminal ?

If they don’t see any output, maybe they’re not starting Anki from the terminal, or they’re using ‘open /path/to/Anki.app’ instead of [Console Output - Writing Anki Add-ons](https://addon-docs.ankiweb.net/console-output.html#macos)

great, it works when they just run

```auto
/Applications/Anki.app/Contents/MacOS/anki

```
