How find backed up deck?

I passed the prior project management test 1 using Anki. thank you for your help

I created a new profile to study the next certification test 2 on Anki. I backed up the file by going to file, Create backup. I did this multiple times and created many backups, the file size is 811kb

But when I tried to synch across multiple devices [windows pc, android Samsung tablet, Samsung cell phone], I got the error message that says either download from the cloud or upload from the device. I don’t recall what option I picked but after it synced, the decks from the prior test 1 [that I passed which I don’t need] these files were imported. This is not what I wanted, I want to sync the new decks from test 2 that I just created, not test 1.

Then I created another anki account using a new Gmail and imported files backup files [file size 811kb] for test 2 but the decks were from test 1.

how do I recover the second deck test 2 that I recently created?

Moving forward what do I need to do differently so that the test 2 deck files are backed up properly? do I need to create another Anki account with another gmail or use same Gmail that I use for test 1 and create another profile [file, switch profile, add]? I created another profile in test2 but decks from test1 reloaded. Thanks in advance.

Those backups are all stored locally on your computer, in the same “test 2” profile folder as the automatic backups that Anki already makes for you.

That isn’t really an error message – it’s the normal message that comes the first time you sync. An AnkiWeb account can only sync with a single profile, and since you were in a different profile, it was a first-time sync.

It sounds like you chose “download from AnkiWeb” – so the sync downloaded your “test 1” collection and overwrote your “test 2” collection.

You need to restore one of the older backups in the “test 2” profile – from just before you mis-synced. If you’re not sure which one, just keep trying the next-most-recent one until you find it.

A single user hardly ever needs multiple profiles, so you can keep these decks together and use a single AnkiWeb account for syncing. That’s advisable, because as you’ve seen already, multiple profiles/accounts increases the risk of mis-syncing and data loss.

If you’re determined to have separate profiles and you want to sync them, you will also have to have separate AnkiWeb accounts to sync each of them to. [And AnkiDroid does not yet have native support for multiple profiles in the same install.]

As far as backups, those are being created frequently and automatically for each profile you use on each device, regardless of whether you are syncing with AnkiWeb.

thanks
i tired as you suggested but my test2 deck isn’t recovered. did loose it forever?
if yes, what do i need to do as i’m recreating same deck besides “file - create backup” often after i create a new deck?

Unless you deleted the backups after you made them, I still think you just haven’t found the right backup file to restore yet. Are you looking in the right profile folder?

But even if you did delete those manual backups, automatic backups are made every 30 minutes when Anki is active. Unless you created and overwrote this deck in less than 30 minutes, it would have been caught by (at least) one of those as well.

That’s generally not necessary. Please read the link I gave you about automatic backups.

i found it but i thought i had more decks. its starting point, good i didn’t lose everything
