I understand why you don’t want people posting links to the forums generally, but why not allow links to whitelisted URLs, like the anki domains? It makes it really hard to report problems without a link to the pertinent page.

Context: frames’ Trust Level is “new user”.

Assuming Anki Forum is using Default Settings for Trust Levels:

>
> Originally published at: Understanding Discourse Trust Levels The user trust system is a fundamental cornerstone of Discourse. Trust levels are a way of… Sandboxing new users in your community so that they cannot accidentally hurt themselves,...

Users at trust level 0 (New User) _cannot_ …

- Send personal messages to other users
- “Reply as new topic” via Link button (UI removed)
- Flag posts
- Post more than 1 image
- Post any attachments
- Post more than 2 hyperlinks in a post
- Have actual links in the ‘about me’ field of their profile (will be silently and temporarily converted to plain text)
- Mention more than 2 users in a post
- Post more than 3 topics
- Post more than 10 replies
- Edit their own posts after more than 24 hours

Admins can change these limitations by searching for `newuser` and `first_day` in site settings.

* * *

Even if Anki domains were whitelisted, it would still count as hyperlink and fall under trust level 0 rule: New User can’t post more than 2 hyperlinks in a post

Get to trust level 1 by…

- Entering at least **5** topics
- Reading at least **30** posts
- Spend a total of **10** minutes reading posts

Users at trust level 1 can…

- Use all core Discourse functions; all new user restrictions are removed (hyperlink restriction lifted)
- Send PMs
- Upload images and attachments if enabled
- Edit wiki posts
- Flag posts
- Mute other users

It looks like Discourse does support this. I’ve added [ankiweb.net](http://ankiweb.net).

I’d suggest adding all the subdomains too as my links are still being blocked.

I also got a warning about “new users can only add two links to the posts” - I had three and all were legit. I’d suggest increasing that too.

Dang, I was hoping it would allow subdomains automatically. I’ve added the manual and FAQs.

Can Drive links be allowed? It will help people who want to share their files.

It’s possible, but not everyone uses Google, and it would mean that spammers could post links to malware without any forum reputation.

Overall, it’s rare that a newcomer needs to share their actual deck or another file to get help. Most issues can be solved based on codeblock text or screenshots, even if a few experiments need to be done.

In the few cases where an actual file could be useful – it’s a waste of time unless someone is volunteering to help hands-on with that user’s data. Whoever wants to volunteer can let the newcomer know the best way to get the file directly to them.

What about [Github.com](http://Github.com) for Anki and Ankidroid repos

seems a valid use case for #Development #FSRS #AnkiDroid (Android) #Anki #Shared Decks

GitHub is already on the whitelist, though that too could potentially be abused by hosting malware on the releases page. As far as I’m aware, the whitelist is for domains, not specific URLs.
