Difficulty locating automated backup file to restore on Ubuntu

My deck does not open. Restarting did nothing to fix the issue.

When I attempt to restore from backup, I’m dumped to a general list of recently-accessed files that doesn’t contain any Anki backups. I don’t know where they are located.

As per the FAQ, I have looked in ~/.local/share and it contains no “Anki” or “Anki2” directory or files. There is also no ~/Documents/Anki or ~/Anki.

Any assistance in finding my automatic backup files, or otherwise resolving this error and opening my deck, would be much appreciated.

Example of path in my Ubuntu 24.04: /home/aleks/.local/share/Anki2/User 1/backups/backup-2025-08-10-23.52.42.colpkg

Anki version ⁨25.09.2. Installed by the installer, not by snap.

Thank you.

There’s no Anki or Anki2 directory in this location for me.

Ubuntu 22.04.5

Anki installed with snap (which I seem to regret every time); debug info:

Anki 25.09.2 (3890e12c)
Python 3.12.3 Qt 6.9.2 PyQt 6.9.1
Platform: Linux-6.8.0-85-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.39

This is a very common mistake. see this:

It says:

Please don’t install Anki via FlatPak, Snap packages or other non-native package managers. People have been reporting various problems connected to these installation methods.

PS: On snap, backups should be in ~/snap/anki-desktop/common/$USERPROFILE$/backups

I found them! Thank you SO much.

(Still haven’t gotten them to work, but if I end up needing help with that, I’ll make a separate post. Going to try uninstalling with Snap and doing a fresh command-line install.)
