Hi. I’m a Korean user who’s currently using desktop Anki ver. **26.08.1.

After installation, I selected the language Korean and tried making decks named in Korean. However, the deck is not created. To check if it’s the problem in making decks itself, I tried both adding decks naming in other languages(English, Chinese) and downloading shared decks, and both of them worked properly. It seems like there is problem only in making decks named in Korean.
I was not able to reproduce the reported behavior with Anki 26.09b1 on macOS Tahoe 26.6.2.
I successfully created 3 decks with Korean character names:
- I created a deck named
고양이and then another named개. The Anki UI language was set to English (United States) when I created those 2 decks. - I then switched the Anki UI language to Korean, restarted Anki, and successfully created a 3rd deck named
돼지.
(I did not manually type the Korean characters. Instead, I used an online translation service to translate English words into Korean. I then copied the translated Korean words and pasted them into Anki.)

I installed a Korean 2-Set keyboard input method on my computer and then successfully created a 4th deck named 채냐메 by typing on my keyboard. (I don’t know what those Korean characters are. I just pressed random keys on the keyboard. I think that the keypress sequence that produced those Korean characters was c-o-s-i-a-p.)
Can you give us more detail about exactly what steps you did to create the decks, and what “the deck is not created” means? If there was an error message, we need to know about that. If everything seemed fine, but you couldn’t see the deck, we need to know where you were looking. Was this a fresh install with a new/empty profile?
Also go to Help / Anki > About > Copy Debug Info – and paste that result here.
Thanks for the replies. Following BenJamesBen’s instruction, I successfully created new decks with Korean character names and it seems like what I encountered was not a bug but rather a coincidence.
I tried creating decks named in ‘고양이’, ‘개’, ‘돼지’, and all of them worked properly. However, only the specific Korean word(Let’s say ‘물고기’) I tried naming previously did not work.
It was because I’ve already created deck ‘물고기’ before, then deleted it without adding any card to the deck, but for what reason Anki recognized the deck ‘물고기’ present without displaying it in the deck list. I noticed it after pressing ‘Add’ button and finding out Anki set the default deck as ‘물고기’, which I had thought I’ve already deleted. After adding a card in ‘물고기’, it appeard in the deck list.

It sounds like you change the name of the “Default” deck. That deck exists as a failsafe, but it is hidden whenever it is empty. If can get it to appear, you should rename it to “Default.” You’ll know you found the right deck if you can successfully use that name. As soon as you move the cards out of it, it will disappear again – but that will free up the deck name for you to use it for another deck.
OP can make a deck with the name 물고기::zzz, then the default deck would appear.
That is a lovely and elegant solution! I’m pretty sure the last time I tried to help someone summon the “Default” deck, it involved a half-dozen steps and Deck Override.
