Hey there,

a lot of people, myself included, find it difficult to learn every single day for prolonged periods of time, and would much prefer not having to do Anki during a week off on holiday, for instance. It’s obvious that the brain does not stop forgetting during this. Looking only at learning progress, it would theoretically be ideal to simply keep on studying. But humans are not machines – and I feel like quite a few people are put off of using Anki by a large amount of overdue cards after they’ve taken a holiday, which is certainly even worse for learning progress.

Since I’m unaware of native support for such a feature, I was looking at a number of addons and the corresponding forum threads. They clearly differ greatly in their approaches to the problem. My question is: Am I right in assuming that FSRS Helper ([https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/759844606](https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/759844606)) is currently the best solution for minimizing the amount of extra effort required in order to take (e.g. week-long) breaks from Anki? I’m a bit doubtful because it mentions spreading the reviews out only to days after the break, but I feel like in some cases it would make sense to spread repetitions also to days before the break.

Thank you.

I’d say it is. It’s the only one I’ve seen that approaches it intelligently, and the only one I’d feel comfortable recommending for that. After all, it was created by the same dev who created FSRS.

I believe the “Schedule a Break” feature is envisioned for use _just before_ your break, so it can only push cards to after the break.

But on the days leading up to your break, you can use the add-on’s “Advance cards” feature for some cards each day, to front-load that work. And if you’re planning ahead further in advance, you can use the add-on’s “Easy days for specific dates” feature to keep those days from filling up in the first place.
