Now that Anki [relies on your system’s certificate store](https://forums.ankiweb.net/t/ssl-error-when-checking-addon-updates/60121/9), this seems to happen when there’s a proxy or certificate or antivirus getting in the way of the connection. The same suggestions for issues connecting to AnkiWeb otherwise often work – [Error establishing a secure connection when syncing - Anki FAQs](https://faqs.ankiweb.net/error-establishing-a-secure-connection-when-syncing.html) .

If not, take a look at these other threads and try any solution you haven’t so far.

I’ve seen this a few times recently, and other threads seem hard to locate, so I’m adding the error message as text for searchability –

```plaintext
1782362167: Please check your internet connection.
HTTPSConnectionPool(host="ankiweb.net’, port=443): Max retries exceeded
with url: /shared/download/1782362167?v=2.1&p=250204 (Caused by
SSLError(SSLCertVerificationError(1, ‘[SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED]
certificate verify failed: certificate has expired (_ssl.c:1129)')))
