AnkiDroid places newly created cards into the wrong subdeck

Hi everyone,

My problem:

When adding a new note/card and explicitly selecting a specific subdeck within a main deck, the newly created card ends up in a different subdeck under the same parent deck instead of the one I manually selected.

This behavior makes card creation unpredictable, as I constantly have to verify and move cards to their intended location.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open the “Add note” screen in AnkiDroid.
2. Tap the deck selector and explicitly choose a specific subdeck (e.g., ParentDeck::TargetSubdeck).
3. Fill in the fields and save the note.
4. Check the card browser: the card is assigned to another subdeck (e.g., ParentDeck::OtherSubdeck) rather than the target deck chosen in step 2.

Environment:

• AnkiDroid version: 2.24.0
• Android version: 13

My deck structure:

E.g.: I choose C++ and the cards end up in Fogalmak or English.

If you are seeing this with a specific note type, it probably has a Deck Override set – so check that first.

Then you should verify whether the same thing is happening with a default note type and whether it is happening in your same collection in desktop Anki.
