Uzbek government recently [approved](https://www.gazeta.uz/en/2026/09/10/uzb-alphabet/) the new Uzbek alphabet. I converted all the Uzbek strings in Anki to the new Uzbek alphabet with these GitHub pull requests:

- [Convert strings to new uzbek alphabet by itsbilolbek · Pull Request #19 · ankitects/anki-core-i18n · GitHub](https://github.com/ankitects/anki-core-i18n/pull/19)
- [Convert to new uzbek alphabet by itsbilolbek · Pull Request #5 · ankitects/anki-desktop-ftl · GitHub](https://github.com/ankitects/anki-desktop-ftl/pull/5)
- [Convert to new uzbek alphabet by itsbilolbek · Pull Request #15 · ankitects/ankimobile-ftl · GitHub](https://github.com/ankitects/ankimobile-ftl/pull/15)

Unfortuantely Pontoon website doesn’t have find and replace feature nor translation upload feature. Converting all the strings one by one would take a lot of time and effort. Hence I decided to make a GitHub pull requests instead. Please, can you merge these pull requests into Anki and incorporate these changes to Pontoon too?

Thanks

Thank you for opening a discussion about this, and for the link to the explanation of the alphabet changes!

Incorporating language reform/innovation in localization raises concerns about what will be readable by the largest number of users. But it sounds like this reform is just substituting those 4 specific character-combinations for their Turkic single-character counterparts, which have been used previously in the language. Am I understanding that correctly? So, the PRs are essentially a find-and-replace, and we shouldn’t anticipate any readability issues?

This is an important aspect of this that I want to confer with the devs on. GitHub pulls updated translations from Pontoon automatically for each release, so if we can’t push the translations there from GitHub (or upload them to Pontoon some other way), they’ll be overwritten with the next release.

That is correct. The current translation already uses Latin letters and the new alphabet only visually changes 4 letters. There will be little to no readability issues.
