Drag-and-dropping a JPEG image file into the Experimental Svelte Note Editor results in a paste-[unique_id].png file being added, rather than the original JPEG file as expected. This seems like it might be a bug or unwanted behavior.

The unexpected file name/type is seen in the HTML editor and also in the media.collection folder. The problem behavior does not occur when attaching a file in the Experimental Svelte Note Editor, and it also does not occur when drag-and-dropping a file in the old editor.

So, when I added 3 identical JPEG image files named jpegtest2.jpg, jpegtest3.jpg, and jpegtest4.jpg:

  • Drag-and-drop, old editor: <img src="jpegtest2.jpg">
  • Drag-and-drop, Svelte editor: <img src="paste-1b028a67c31a255a7123f7e29670fcfdf0be1a2f.png">
  • Attach a file, Svelte editor: <img src="jpegtest4.jpg">

Anki 26.09b3, macOS Tahoe 26.6.2.

Edit: Added:

The drag-and-drop was from a Finder window to note fields in the Anki Add and Browse windows. I clicked and dragged on the filename to drag a file into Anki.

The attach a file operation was done by clicking on the paperclip icon in the Anki Add window.

Added:
And, this bug is resulting in larger media files. When I tried to add a 17 KB JPEG file, it resulted in a 296 KB PNG file getting added to my media.collection folder.
