I’ve recently got a new laptop and have downloaded Anki onto it. I have signed in to my account and there is nothing there, blank account with no flashcards. I’ve also logged on to my account on ankiweb and it’s blank there too.

I was regularly using my account so wouldn’t be because of deletion, and I definately had an ankiweb account that was being synced as a similar thing has happened before but I luckily had access to my local files on my old laptop then asn was able to go back and ensure everything is synced and uploaded. My old laptop is unaccessible now so I can’t do that and I dont understand where my last 3 years of cards have gone. Help help help!

From the symptoms you described, it might be that you have 2 different AnkiWeb accounts. Please check to see whether this might be the case. If you previously used one account on your old laptop and are now logging into a different, empty account on your new laptop, that would explain why your collection isn’t there.

When you started using Anki on your new laptop, were you asked to perform a one-way sync and if so, did you choose the “Upload to AnkiWeb” option? Another possiblity might be that you performed a one-way sync and uploaded the empty collection on your new laptop up to AnkiWeb.

I’m looking at the AnkiWeb account connected to the email address you used to post here.

In that case, you must have another account, because this account hasn’t had any activity since March. To figure out what email address you were using –

- Check any device(s) you have used Anki on. You’ll see your account email address in `Preferences > Syncing`.
- Check your email accounts for confirmation messages you would have received from `ankiweb.net`.
- Go to [https://ankiweb.net/account/settings](https://ankiweb.net/account/settings) and see if you have your credentials saved in your browser/cookies.

If this is your only account – the data was removed from this account in September 2026, after it had been inactive for at least 6 months. We delete the data from accounts in our system that aren’t being used for syncing or studying, so AnkiWeb isn’t suitable for long-term storage of your inactive collection – [AnkiWeb account removal - Anki Docs](https://docs.ankiweb.net/faqs/ankiweb-account-removal) .

Generally when data is removed from an account, that includes the server-side backups. However there is one that was retained in your account – from March 2026. [Just like a local automatic backup, that does not include any media attached to your collection.] _ **If you want me to restore it to your AnkiWeb account, please confirm.** _

Other things you can do right now –

- Make sure the email address you’re using for your AnkiWeb account is one that you have permanent access to. If you lose touch with that email, you won’t get important emails from us – like notification that your data is pending deletion. And if you can’t re-verify your email address annually, you might not be able to access AnkiWeb at all.

- If you know you’re going to take a long break from studying, you can [create your own COLPKG backup](https://docs.ankiweb.net/backups.html#creating-1) of your collection and store that in a separate place (e.g., another device, a cloud storage account).
